QR payment service has been launched at Kuleshwor-based Fruit Bazaar and Balkhu Vegetable Bazaar in Kathmandu. On Friday morning, Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Maha Prasad Adhikari started the service by making payment through QR code.
In order to move the country towards cashless business, the payment of daily necessities like vegetables will be linked to the online process in collaboration with various banks, said the Governor. Nabil Bank has operated QR code service in Kuleshwar-based fruit market and NMB Bank in Balkhu vegetable market. As soon as the service is launched, consumers will be able to pay the amount of fruits and vegetables purchased through their mobile banking application or mobile wallet through QR code.The program organized with the objective of promoting cashless transactions and expanding literacy will encourage small and medium entrepreneurs towards digital banking through QR code. It is said that it has been operated as per the directive of Nepal Rastra Bank to encourage electronic payment. Chief Executive Officer of NMB Bank, Sunil KC, said that the service was launched with the objective of transforming the society towards cashless business.
Anil Keshari Shah, CEO of Nabil Bank, said that Nabil Bank has started QR code payment service since March 2020 to promote digital transactions and cashless transactions. He said that there are now more than 750 QR service establishments across the country.
